All the pieces. All the responsibility.

When you run your own business, you can sometimes feel like this guy.

All the pieces. All the responsibility.

HR and Finance. Sales and Marketing. Hopefully never Legal.

And while Brand is the glamorous side (haha), lurking in the back of every freelancer’s mind – especially at this time of year – is the dreaded T word.

Not Tim. Tax.

The thrill of that first sale has to be tempered ever-so-slightly. It is now down to you – and you alone – to create and chase invoices, save the tax, pay into a pension and do all those pesky little things HR and Finance used to make go away.

This is where you quickly learn one of the most important lessons as a freelancer.

Whether it’s creating a website, designing a logo or doing your accounts, if the time and worry is going to cost more (financially/emotionally/physically) than the time you could be spending with clients, then ask for help.

It's been an experiment so far. But better to keep experimenting than to run out of moves before you've even begun.
