Part One: My Paralympic Games journey so far

With one year to go to the ⛷️Milano Cortina 2026 Paralympic Winter Games ⛷️, I thought I'd share the first in a mini-series on my journey with the Paralympic Movement so far.
➡️It started at the end of 2015. A swap deal with a colleague in Singapore fell through – and while the option of sending me to Asia for a year appealed to many in the team, it wasn’t to be.
It turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Just a couple of months later, I found out Allianz was sponsoring the British Paralympic Association and there was an opportunity to lead the communications.
So while I stayed in the UK, I ended up travelling the country, from Glasgow to Bristol, with four athlete ambassadors. This involved everything from hosting Q&As with athletes, guides, coaches and employees, to a mix of come-and-try sports. I even ended up helping out at the Boccia World Cup in Guildford.
Later that year, I was lucky enough to go to the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, meeting fellow Paralympic partners and getting a first-hand look at what it takes to organise a world-class sporting event.
When I got home, I knew this was where I wanted to be. I started looking for opportunities to get involved. And that's when I secured a volunteer writing role with the International Paralympic Committee.
